Sonia Bélanger, minister responsible for health and seniors, made the announcement Monday at the Montérégie region’s CHSLD Soulanges, one of the five targeted establishments.

The four other private institutions are CHSLD Manoir Harwood (Montérégie-Ouest), CHSLD de la Rive (Laval), CHSLD Manoir de l’Ouest de l’Île (West Island) and CHSLD Wales (Eastern Townships).

That brings the number of private subsidized long-term care homes to eight, which is still far from Quebec’s objective. The province is promising more announcements “in the coming weeks.”

Last June, the Legault government indicated that “up to 20 establishments” could be subsidized in 2022-23, and that the undertaking would continue in 2023-24.
