Hawthorn’s head of football, Rob McCartney, has slammed tanking allegations directed at his club as insulting ahead of Sunday’s bottom-of-the-ladder clash with West Coast.

The Hawks and Eagles are both chasing just a second victory this season, with the round 10 match tagged the “Harley Reid Cup”, in honour of the nominal No.1 pick – something neither team is thrilled about.

Much has changed since they met in the 2015 AFL grand final.

Hawthorn have not won a final since their flag three-peat – and Sam Mitchell replaced Alastair Clarkson as coach ahead of last year – while West Coast claimed the 2018 flag in unforgettable fashion, but are now “transitioning” to a new era, as general manager of football Gavin Bell puts it.
